Pick your bird, count your magpies if that's what you saw, and get the real folk tradition with its source: the 1780 rhyme, Aristotle's swallow, the sparrow that means you're seen. Every omen is attested folklore honestly labeled as folklore, and if you saw no birds at all, that's an answer too: the sky withheld comment.
